Yummy Secret Santa Gifts

Secret Santa, a gift swap that hinges on the giver concealing his identity from the recipient, has a mysterious background. As best we can tell, our modern version is an import from Scandinavia, where custom held that givers should go around knocking on doors and dropping presents at them (or in some cases, throwing them into the house!), all without being seen. Similar gift exchange traditions exist in Germany, Latin America, the Philippines, Ireland . . . You name it. It seems we can't get enough of the anonymous gift exchange, and we at Marco Island Florist are no different. Read More about Yummy Secret Santa Gifts »

Merry and Bright Holiday Office Decor

Brighten up your office this holiday season with some magical floral decor that goes well beyond the poinsettia variety. There's a lot of fun to be had hanging the tinsel garlands and decking out the Christmas tree with your team. Doing so builds workplace morale and gives everyone a break from seasonal stress. One way to add to the cheer is to put out some fresh blooms in holiday colors, or to gift your coworkers and colleagues with a bouquet that can grace their desks and remind them that you're grateful for their efforts. Bright Blooms for Bold Veterans

Every year on or around November 11, we celebrate Veterans Day, a time to express our gratitude for our U.S. military veterans and to acknowledge their service to country. We do this through parades, parties, and observances. We commemorate the occasion in our homes, spending time with our favorite vets. And yet, many of us are far away from the veterans in our family or the ones we've come to know throughout the years. And in that case, we at Marco Island Florist suggest you send a bouquet of bright blooms, straight from the Sunshine State. Read More about Bright Blooms for Bold Veterans »

Sweetest Day Gifts to Show Kindness

Although Sweetest Day has been a holiday since the early 1900's, until recently it was largely only recognized in the Midwest and Northeast. It's name may make you think that it is a romantic observance, but in fact the day was established for a far different purpose. The first Sweetest Day was actually a community event organized by local candy company owners in Cleveland, OH. The executives handed out over 26,000 boxes of chocolates to shut-ins, orphans, and those down on their luck, in order to let them know that they were not forgotten members of society. The intent of the day has always been to show support and encouragement to those who may be struggling, with "sweetest" referring to candy. However, over the years, the day has evolved to include any kind gesture. Marco Island Florist Home & Gifts is proud to supply the floral designs, gifts and chocolate that will convey your love and friendship.  Read More about Sweetest Day Gifts to Show Kindness »

Grandparents Day Celebrations & Florals

They are the best babysitters, our closest confidantes, and our staunchest allies. On September 10, we have the opportunity to thank the very special people who love us the most - our grandparents! Grandparents Day is a time set aside to honor the multi-generational relationships that make up our families, and that make life so special. Originally established in 1978, Grandparents Day celebrations were meant to include reunions and gatherings, and to promote the sharing of stories about family history and legacy. The day is also the perfect opportunity for us to honor these amazing matriarchs and patriarchs - after all, there is no one like a grandparent. The floral designers at Marco Island Florist Home & Gifts have compiled a collection of Grandparents Day flowers and gifts sure to make them feel loved and cherished.  Read More about Grandparents Day Celebrations & Florals »

Memorial Day Floral Designs & Bouquets

Memorial Day has been observed since the end of the Civil War, undergoing some changes along the way. It was known as Decoration Day for a good part of its existence, but the name was changed to Memorial Day when it was made a national holiday in 1971. After World War I, a poem was written by a soldier recounting his experiences in battle. In Flanders Fields hauntingly spoke of the red poppies growing among the soldier's graves. "In Flanders fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row..." And while the red poppy has enjoyed many years as an official emblem of the holiday, they are not given out as fresh flowers. If you would like to send flowers to the loved ones of someone who is deceased - or deliver an appropriate floral display to a grave site - you can trust the expert designers at Marco Island Florist Home & Gifts to create something patriotic and poignant.
