We all want to maintain a new bouquet of flowers as long as possible, but sometimes it can be difficult to know how to care for an arrangement of mixed flowers. After all, all flowers are not created equal, and some need different kinds of care than others. Let the experts at Marco Island Florist take some of the guesswork out of caring for your new arrangement.
Say you receive a beautiful mix like our Sunflowers and Succulents piece. Sunflowers, hydrangea and succulents can all be maintained separately to allow for a long-lasting arrangement. Here’s how:
- Sunflowers: Just like with roses, cut stems underwater and on a diagonal before adding to vase water. Remove leaves and foliage from below water line and refresh nutrient-rich vase water every other day.
- Hydrangea: Before adding to vase water, dip cut stems in alum (found in the spice aisle in most grocery stores) then add to water. If blooms begin to wilt, boil water, then place stems in hot water for 30 seconds before returning to lukewarm vase water.
- Succulents: Because these are known for quickly growing roots, eventually you can remove from arrangement and plant in nutrient-rich soil. Long-lasting enjoyment awaits!
