5 Fun and Simple Ways to Decorate Your Front Porch for Autumn

One of the best ways to celebrate the changing seasons and spread cheer around your neighborhood is by decorating your front porch, door, and steps for fall. A festive front porch will instantly boost the curb appeal of your Marco Island home, impressing your neighbors, friends, and family. These quick and easy tips from Marco Island Florist will help you create a fun and festive front porch design to celebrate the season.

Mums and Pumpkins

Fall Flowers

Chrysanthemums are the poster flowers of fall. They bloom abundantly all season long. Plus, they’re available in lots of varieties and just about every color of the rainbow, including all the best for fall like yellow, gold, orange, purple, and red. Potted mums are a favorite, but we also recommend blooms like kalanchoe, marigold, goldenrod, and lantana. Be sure to fill out your outdoor flowers with plenty of lush greenery, such as leafy croton plants or the sumptuous purples and greens of potted kale.

Pumpkins and Gourds Galore

Fall just isn’t fall without a few pumpkins, and they’re a great way to add big splashes of color to your autumn decorations. We recommend selecting a variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and textures to create interesting groups and add a dynamic element to your home’s seasonal look. Although carving lanterns from pumpkins is popular for Halloween, these pumpkins won’t last the whole season. We recommend leaving your pumpkins intact and decorating them with paint, instead. Put your house numbers in bold on a few big gourds to help your guests find your home. You can even stencil on festive designs or spray a few with metallic paints in gold and silver.

A Fancy Front Door

Any porch decoration design should feature the front door as the primary focal point. You can achieve this by adorning your front door in a variety of ways. Offer your guests hospitality before they even knock with a basket of freshly picked apples. You can go for a more traditional look with an autumn wreath, featuring flowers, foliage, and embellishments like miniature pumpkins, acorns, pinecones, and ribbons. If your door’s design won’t accommodate a wreath, we recommend drawing the eye upward by draping a garland or fall foliage, greenery, or flowers over your door frame.

Toasty Textiles

Summer’s over, and it’s time to put all your textiles featuring summer hues, prints, and lighter fabrics into storage. Replace them with autumn-appropriate items, like flannel blankets and pillows. These will create a more inviting atmosphere around your outdoor furniture and make you want to snuggle up with a book and a mug of hot apple cider.

Be Bountiful

The main theme associated with the harvest is “bounty.” Create a bountiful design by combining a variety of elements like potted plants, greenery, pumpkins, gourds, and other autumn accents like cornstalks, hay bales, and scarecrows. Don’t be afraid to layer up and pile on the pieces. This look will make it look like a cornucopia spilled artfully over your front porch. Just be sure to maintain balance and symmetry in your design to prevent it from looking messy or chaotic.

Bring the Spirit of Autumn Indoors with Fall Floral Arrangements

There’s no reason why the fall fun has to stop at your front door. You can celebrate inside, too, with festive floral arrangements and blooming plants designed especially for autumn. The Blooming Harvest Basket is one of our favorite fall designs.
