Here in Marco Island, there’s really no such thing as winter. We call it that, but really our landscape looks nothing like the rest of the country’s in the cold season. And frankly, we here at Marco Island Florist couldn’t be happier about it. We love being surrounded by green (and blue!) year round, and that we still get to enjoy winter-inspired flowers, too. Even though there will be no snow days for us this December, we’re still setting our tables with centerpieces and bouquets that conjure a colder scene.
Roses, lilies, amaryllis . . . these are all winter bloomers, which is why they can confidently pop up in winter arrangements and not seem out of place. But there are so many seasonal elements to bring into our cold-weather styles, whether they’re intended for the holiday or just as seasonal decor. Our Orchids and Berries is a good example of this.
This simple, graceful arrangement takes one flower – the dendrobium orchid – and lets it unfurl beautifully. It’s a way of showcasing the orchid’s singular beauty. Add a few branches of holly berry and a sweet red bow and this becomes a holiday arrangement.
We love the idea of using this as a winter centerpiece, especially here in Florida. It feels in step with our climate, and while lavish, isn’t overwhelming either.
